Love compatibility: what your sign really says

Two 'incompatible' signs can still build a solid couple. Here's how astrology sheds light on a relationship — without condemning it.

What compatibility actually compares

Sign compatibility rests first on the elements: Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) and Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) feed one another, just as Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) do. Two signs of the same element understand each other instinctively; two opposing elements have to learn each other's language.

But the Sun sign is only one piece of the puzzle: the rising sign, the Moon (emotional needs) and Venus (the way we love) matter just as much in a real relationship.

A score is not a verdict

A 'poor' compatibility doesn't condemn a couple: it simply flags the likely points of friction — and therefore the places to make a conscious effort. Conversely, an ideal match on paper never excuses you from communicating.

That's the spirit of our compatibility pages: to describe the dynamics of each pair of signs, strengths as well as frictions, rather than handing out good and bad marks.

Going beyond the Sun sign

For a truly personal reading, you need to cross-reference the two complete birth charts — what is known as synastry. During a consultation, our astrology experts draw on your real birth data to analyse the precise dynamics of your relationship.

Frequently asked questions

Which signs are compatible with mine?

As a general rule, the signs of your own element and of the complementary element (Fire–Air, Earth–Water). See our sign-pair pages for the detail of each combination.

Should we break up if our signs are incompatible?

No. Astrological compatibility describes tendencies, not a destiny: it shows where the relationship will need more attention, nothing more.
